Posture Chair FAQ
About the Posture Chair
Why is a good Posture Chair at work important?
Research suggests that a significant number of working aged adults spend more than 6 hours a day sitting. If you are sitting for such a long period of time, a poor posture may make you feel uncomfortable and at worst increase the risk of injury.
Quite simply, buying a Posture Chair is an investment in happy, comfortable sitting. This article is designed to provide an overview of some of the different types of posture chairs and to introduce you to what we believe are some of the best models on the market.
What different types of Posture Chair are available?
- Kneel Chair: The Kneel chair lowers the thighs to approximately 60 to 70 degrees from the trunk, which is designed to help improve the natural curvature of your lower back during sitting.
- Saddle Chair: Saddle chairs are designed in the shape of a saddle to improve the lower back position during sitting.
- Ergonomic Office Chairs: Historically, office chairs consisted of 4 legs and 2 arms with very little adjustability. The new era of office ergonomics has led to the development of office chairs with multiple adjustments.
- Active Sitting Chairs: Active sitting chairs are a special type of posture chair that enable you to gently exercise whilst you are sitting. Normally, the seat will have an internal spring or a rocking mechanism in the base that enables you to gently move whilst sitting.
How do I know which Posture Chair will suit me the best?
One of the best ways of working out which seat is right for you is to try it for yourself. There are different ways you can go about this. One option is to pop into our physiotherapy led sitting clinic and try one of our range of seats. If you want to use the seat for a little longer, we do offer 7 day trials on a number of our different models. If you are interested in finding out how a trial works, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 0203 051 0157. In the email, please include the posture chair you are interested in trialing and your address. We will then contact you to explain how the no obligation trial works.
Why are more and more companies investing in a good Posture Chair for their employees?
Bad backs cost companies millions of pounds every year. Whilst there are clearly a number of factors that can contribute to back pain, an increasing number of health professionals and scientists believe that poor postural alignment may play an important role. As companies struggle to reduce their work related injury costs, they are increasingly investing in ergonomic furniture.
Can I exercise on my Posture chair?
Some of the newer types of chairs have been designed so you can gently exercise whilst sitting. The advantages of active sitting are that you can gently work important stabilising muscles in your trunk whilst sitting. The gentle motion from the movement can also be very therapeutic and relaxing. The types of chairs that allow you to be active during sitting include: the Salli Swing, Salli Swing Fit, Swopper, Swoppster, Move, Variable Thatsit and Varier Variable.
