TENS Machines: Electrical stimulation for pregnancy and osteoarthritis pain

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a non invasive electrical stimulation treatment used to help manage pain. This type of  therapy involves applying a small electrical current to the skin overlying the painful area through a pair of electrodes that are attached to the skin. The technique is safe, has minimal side effects and most people report that it feels very comfortable. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation has been used for a range of painful conditions including:

• Neuropathy

It is still not exactly known how this type of therapy helps pain. However, a number of researchers believe it works by blocking pain signals as they travel to the brain.
