Why are the standards produced?
Ergonomic office chair product standards have been developed to ensure maximum chair quality and safety.
What are the Ergonomic office chair standards?
There are 3 main parts to the new ergonomic office chair standards
- Part 1 focuses on the dimensions of office chairs
- Part 2 focuses on the safety requirements of office chairs
- Part 3 focuses on the safety test methods of office chairs
Part 1 of BS EN 1335 includes information on the dimensions of 3 types of ergonomic office chair
Type A office chair (ergonomic chair with a full range of adjustments)
Seat height must be adjustable (400mm minimum height and 120mm adjustment range).
Type B office chair (standard office chair with basic ergonomic features)
Seat height must be adjustable (minimum height 420mm and 100mm adjustment range).
Type C office chair (executive chair with thicker upholstery)
Seat height must be adjustable (400mm minimum height and 80mm adjustment range).
